Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Palette Review

The long awaited Peanut Butter and Jelly Palette has finally come.  I think that it was well worth the wait.  Too Faced has been on top of their game with product releases this year alone.  Lets get into the details.  So, this PB&J palette retails for 36.00 USD like all other 9 pan palettes from Too Faced.  The palette has 3 mattes and 6 shimmer eyeshadows.  The rows are notated on the left to describe the look if you use the three shadows on that row.  Of course, you can use the shadows however you like.

The palette was inspired by the infamous peanut butter shade from the Semi Sweet palette.  The color payoff is great on all of the shadows except for Jelly.  I know, I know...I love purple too and it sucks that the worst color is one of the prettiest in the palette.  The color payoff is not great on Jelly and you will definitely have to use some fix+ or something similar to help the shadow stick and become more vibrant.  Similar to the chocolate palette series, this palette does, in fact, smells like peanut butter.  Too Faced also states that the product does not contain peanuts for those with peanut allergies.  The packaging is super cute, and this palette is a great travel palette.  I think that Too Faced did a great job with the color selection.  I wish there was a darker outer corner color but hey they had 9 slots...I can live with that.  I cannot put this palette down.  Did you pick up this palette?  Stay FABULOUS!

Kate Somerville Exfolikate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash Review

This is the first Kate Somerville product that I am trying beyond just a two day sample.  Kate Somerville's products are not new to the market but they are now receiving increasing buzz.  Acne and oily skin beauties have been raving about her products, so I thought that I would give it a try.  Here is write up on the Kate Somerville Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash per Sephora:

Reveal softer, smoother skin while gently cleansing away oil, makeup, and surface impurities with this creamy cleanser. Based on Kate’s bestselling ExfoliKate®, this formula contains a duo of AHA’s—glycolic and lactic acids—and pineapple, pumpkin, and papaya enzymes to purify without over-drying, leaving skin fresh, soft, and conditioned. For all skin types, this cleanser maximizes the benefits of ExfoliKate Exfoliating Treatment to help maintain a glowing complexion between uses.
The cleanser is what I would call gentle.  It does not leave the skin feeling dry or abrasive, but your skin feels soft and moisturized.  It creates a great lather and the consistency is very lightweight, whipped-like.  This cleanser does a great job of removing makeup and impurities.  My acne comes in waves...I call them angry spells.  I have had minimal breakouts since using this cleanser for the last 4 weeks.  I have also been using this product in conjunction with the Kate Somerville ExfoilKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment.  A review is to come about this product later.

So, why did it take me so long to try this product?  The price.  Kate Somerville products are not cheap.  The cleanser retails for 38.00 USD.  It's not much more than the Murad cleanser that I was purchasing.  But, I often could purchase Murad on sale from many different places.  I cannot say the same for Kate Someville products.  They had a great deal at Sephora which included a full size cleanser (4 oz) and exfoliating treatment for (0.5 oz) 50.00 USD.  This set is still currently available on Sephora.com.  I feel as though this product is worth the price...even though I wish I could find something more cost effective.  Kate Somerville has several products geared to several different skin concerns:  aging, acne, uneven skin.  I look forward to trying more products.  Stay FABULOUS!

Why Can't I Get My Hands On The Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette!

I have not had any luck with this palette! Am I the only one that is frustrated that this palette keeps selling out in literally minutes!  The Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette originally released on March 17 on TooFaced.com.  The palette has sold out twice within minutes.  Each time that I tried to order, the website shut down because of the volume.  I did not have nearly as much trouble with the PB&J palette from Too Faced.

Honestly what has me intrigued is the peach and purple hues...and that I am a Georgia girl!  Ulta.com released the palette with no advance warning or special access to platinum members.  The palette sold out in minutes.  There was also a release on HSN.com!  Again no advance warning...not even from Jerrod Blandino.  The palette was originally supposed to release in stores in late March, but the date was pushed back to April.  The palette is expected to be available in Ulta stores on April 7th.

Like many, I am now starting to wonder if this was all done to increase sales and hype for the product.  The product keeps getting released with no warning and very little stock.  Many Youtubers have been sent this product long before it's release.  Now everyone is dying to the the palette.  So, after the chocolate collection releases, wouldn't Too Faced plan in advance for a large clientele?  Of course, many love the colors.  But, faithful reviewer, Temptalia ( Temptalia.com ), states that this is a another dupable palette and the colors lack luster. The story is slowly getting out that the palette is not all that it is hyped up to be.  I love my PB&J palette....but Too Faced is known to have better quality in the 9 pan palettes.

I am starting to second guess purchasing this palette when it FINALLY releases again.  It may be more as a collector's item than a wearable palette unfortunately.  But, we will see how it goes.  I have not gotten my hands on it yet.  Did you snag the Sweet Peach palette?  What are your thoughts?  Stay FABULOUS!

*Update:  There has been another unannounced release of the palette on Sephora.com today.  Of course, you guessed it...it's sold out already. Ugh!

Tea Time: My Beauty Education and Gratis is Lacking

This post is not to meant to slander the Sephora or JC Penney name.  I am just speaking my mind and acknowledging some observations.  Just a few thoughts on the differences between Sephora stores.

First off, there is a pretty big differences between the freestanding Sephora and Sephora Inside JC Penney.  The obvious difference is the types of products available.  The freestanding Sephora carries a larger amount of brands.  But, there is a big training curve between the two stores as well...freestanding Sephora members get a lot more training.  They have brand reps that come and train members as well as education classes to update employees on new products.  Sephora Inside JC Penney has training videos each month and an educator visits each month to go over what was in the video for a couple of hours on the floor.  The training is can be a little distracting on the floor.  You may have customers needing assistance during the training session.  Also, we are not all present at once, so the educator often repeats the same thing over and over for several hours which can cause some information to be missed.  I expected a lot more beauty education just based on the training employees say that they receive on YouTube.  But, I was wrong... There are basic training sessions plus specialized training sessions that some employees are able to attend plus brand rep visits in the freestanding store.  My store lacks all of those.

Just like many other places that meet with brand reps, you get free products.  Theses are extra goodies in addition to your basic gratis.  JC Penney Sephoras do not get brand reps often.  So, we do not get to try all the new awesome brands like others.  Often times, we try brands and products that are not new releases.  Do NOT get me wrong, I love free makeup and products!  But, I thought the purpose of the gratis was to of course gift your employees but to give them access to new products or different products that they would not normally buy to improve the selling experience.  But, do keep in mind that that freestanding stores do not include JC Penney Sephora workers as employees.  We are JC Penney employees.  So, I am sure there are some politics as to difference in training and gratis.

I love my store and what I do.  I have learned some great things on the floor already.  Hopefully, we will continue to move in the direction of growth.  Have you ever worked for a beauty company?  Did you notice differences between stores?  Based on area? Size?  Stay FABULOUS!

The Original Makeup Eraser Review

I really do not want to say that I spent 20.00 USD on a washcloth...but I think that I did.  I have been wanting to try the Makeup Eraser for a while.  A few of my coworkers received this in gratis, and I wish that I had too because I am not completely impressed.  Upon opening the package, my first impression was that the Makeup Eraser closely resembled a terrycloth washcloth.  It comes with detailed instructions for wash and maintenance.    See what the company has to say about the product:
"Remove smear-proof, waterproof makeup and mascara with The Original MakeUp Eraser®. Free of chemicals, this makeup remover gets rid of all types of makeup, including stage, sports, and theatrical makeup. Each cloth will last a thousand washes, and you only need to add warm water and then remove makeup. This ultra-soft, woven polyester-blend cloth gets rid of tough makeup without leaving behind a residue—just a fresh, healthy feeling."
The claim is true that with warm water and the cloth, you can remove all of your makeup.  It did a decent job...yes decent.  I have used the cloth several times now, and it leaves an unclean feeling or a film of makeup still on my skin.  The main claim to fame is the fact that the cloth is supposed to clean so well without chemicals or other products leaving no makeup residue.  But, there is a residue.  I feel as though my Neutrogena wipes do a better job at removing makeup...my face feels more clean.  My other concern is how travel friendly is traveling with a damp cloth to remove my makeup?  I know you are just supposed to wet one corner, but it's like a true washcloth and it holds water.  So, this wound not be ideal for traveling.  I think it works well for home because I can save on the cost of makeup wipes and use the cloth...but my makeup wipes are better suited for travel.  I think the 20.00 USD price tag is a little steep too.  Possibly a price in the early to mid teens would be more appealing.  Overall, it serves its purpose...as a washcloth.  Not a miracle makeup remover.  Have you tried the Makeup Eraser?  Stay FABULOUS!

Attention Oily Girls! Stay Matte All Day (My Oily Skin Foundation Routine)

So, if you have been following me for a while, you will know that I struggle with oily skin.  I have a couple of favorite foundations and powders, but very few can hold up for 6-8 hours or more. I have tried so many products over the years.  But, finally I have found a combination that lasts throughout the day with two to three blots per day.  That's extremely good for me!

Warning:  this application and coverage may be a bit much for some but it works for me.  I tried Kat Von D Foundation in the past, and I felt like it was too much makeup for me.  Then within the last 6 months, I revisited the product.  But instead of using a brush for application, I used a beauty blender.  Bingo!  I have been hooked on this foundation since.  My preference for the best coverage is to use Kat Von D Lock It Liquid foundation as well as the Lock It Powder foundation.  Kat Von D is known for her coverage and longevity, and this combo is solid contender for just that.

For my lighter or shorter makeup days, I still enjoy using my Lancome Teint Idol 24H foundation and Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation.  Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme is one of my favorite summer high end coverage foundations.  I follow the same steps as the Kat Von D just without the Kat Von D liquid foundation.

Make Up For Ever Step 1 Mattifying primer has been my saving grace.  I feel as though it is the most mattifying...even over Becca's ever matte primer.  I actually mix and wear both primers. More oil control where I need it and vise versa. What's your never fail beauty routine? Stay FABULOUS.

Tea Time: Can Your Hair Scare Away A Man?

This post is meant to add a little humor to your day.  It is crazy how in this day and age, men have such a big problem with African American hair...especially African American men.  I still hear many references to "good hair".  "Good hair" being long, straight to wavy hair.  Now, the current trend is black women going "natural".  There are TWAs (teeny weeny afros) and big hair everywhere.  But, I still find it so strange that people, men or women, have a problem with our hair.

Can your hair scare away a man?  I personally do not think so, but sometimes I think that people forget that beauty can come in various forms.  I would hate to think that something as superficial as hair could make a difference in someone's opinion but it's true.  My long, relaxed hair was one of my most popular attributes for men.  They loved my hair...now my hair is short.  Many who once attributed my beauty to such long hair, now stand speechless.  Many do not have a positive or negative response...just silence.  (Now maybe that is because they learned if you don't have anything nice to say...)  But, I am the same person.  I am not my hair.

But, there are many men who are embracing all women including us "natural hair" wearing Sistas!  So do not let a man influence your decisions on your appearance.  Embrace your uniqueness...and they'll catch up!  Let help you weed out the bad ones.  Stay FABULOUS!

Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex Hair Masque10 in 1 Renewal System Review.

I am easing back into the Shea Moisture, but I will say that I am still not in love with the brand as a whole.  The other products I tried in the past were on my relaxed hair.  It felt as though the products made my hair drier.  But, I sure do enjoy this hair mask though.  With that being said, I am exploring the brand again with my natural hair.  I was drawn to try this mask because of the exceptional reviews of many sites.  Here's what Shea Moisture says:

"SheaMoisture's SuperFruit Masque contains powerful antioxidant properties that support and protect aging hair for the effect of UV exposure and other environmental aggressors. Nourishing oils hydrate and smooth coarse hair."

This product is definitely thick, which is what I need for my hair.  It smells amazing, has great slip, and leaves my hair feeling moisturized days later.  My hair is instantly soft to the touch once I rinse this product out.  This also aids in detangling my hair in the shower.  You can purchase Shea Moisture products at many retailers including Walmart, Target, Sally's Beauty Supply, Ulta, Bed, Bath and Beyond, and many more stores.  The price varies between 10.00 USD-15.00 USD for a 12 oz jar.  This product makes me at least want to try the other products in this line which are the shampoo and conditioner.  Then maybe I may revisit some of the other products.  Definitely try this hair mask...it's worth it.  Are Shea Moisture products in your regimen?  Stay FABULOUS!

Spring Makeup Trends: Color Correcting

You may have noticed some new products on the makeup shelves...color correcting tools.  With spring coming, learning how to treat problems areas with the least amount of makeup possible is perfect.  No cakey faces during the warm weather!  Color correcting is the answer.  What I enjoy most about color correcting is that is can be done with or without makeup application.  Color correcting prevents the use of extra concealer and/or foundation to cover or conceal problems areas...win, win right?

So how does color correcting work?  Remember in art class, you learned about complimentary colors?  That's just it.  Those problems areas on our face and body have undertones similar to colors on the color wheel.  Cheeks may have redness, dark circles have purple undertones, and so on.  So, you would use the opposite color on the color wheel to cancel/neutralize the color/problem area.  The problem with foundations and concealers is that they are normally the same color as your skin, and often problem areas can still peak through your makeup.

There are large number color correcting products on the market right now...and there are many formulas including gel, pencil, cream, liquid.  So, how do you know which product to choose?  That's a great question!  I say stick with what you know.  You have a favorite brand, try their products first.  I am still experimenting with some products, so I do not have a favorite at the moment.  But, I promise to update you with reviews as I try some of these products.  I previously only used a little orange concealer to neutralize dark spots, but I would like to try other colors such as the purple to help brighten my skin.  Are you color correcting?  Stay FABULOUS!

Check out the 21 Days of Beauty ad for all the details.  Happy Shopping!  Stay FABULOUS!

Tea Time: WOC Shades Missing in High End Brands!

I feel like I have had this conversation before...and I have.  I was looking on Sephora checking out  the newest makeup releases.  There are a couple of newer foundations in the last 5 to 6 months.  But, there was one common factor with a large number of those foundations...there are little to no women of color shades.  Some of the new foundations out are Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation, Dr Jart+ BB Dis-A-Pore Beauty Balm, Sheseido Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation, Givenchy Photo Perfection Fluid Foundation, and Kevin Aucoin The Sensual Skin Foundation.  So, that's 7 new foundations with one or no women of color shades.  I might add that Nars normally has a very wide selection of women of color shades, but this new line does not represent women of color.  I have tried the new tinted moisturizer, and I feel as though the one dark color is very orange...kind of like that typical one standard dark shade in a makeup line.  I personally had higher expectations from Nars.

Now, there are a few new releases that included a few women of color shades (3 or more).  Some new releases are Estee Lauder Estee Edit Skin Glowing Balm, Becca Aqua Luminous Perfection Foundation, Dior Skin Forever Perfect Foundation, Stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation, YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint Radiance Awakening Foundation, Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation.  So, that's 6 new foundations that have a few women of color shades.

So, for anyone that is not a woman of color, that's 13 new foundations to choose from.  I do not understand why in this day and time we are still being left out in the development stage.  I wonder what goes on during the meetings where the end result is no women of color shades...or there is one standard dark, orange brown shade for all women of color!?!  We have come a long way...more shades and brand options in drugstore and high-end.  But, I guess it's just hard for me to grasp why I cannot select a shade from all 13 foundations above.

Working in a makeup store has really helped point out the discrimination in makeup.  A woman of color comes in and wants a blush or bronzer.  I have to narrow her down to three to four brands in Sephora when we all know the store carries a large variety of those items...just not for women of color.  I am in a smaller store inside a JC Penney so the selection is even slimmer.  A darker woman of color wants a foundation, we are down to four brands.  I know them off the top of my head.  It hurts when they mention a brand that someone has recommended, and I have to tell them that they are too dark and let me show you something else.  Deep skin is not rare in the United States but customers feel as though it is.  Another thing that angers me that maybe half of the foundations above with darker shades are not available in store but online only...so how am I supposed to try out the foundation?!  I'm going to try to start reaching out to makeup companies and letting them know how I feel.  Let's all take a stand and maybe we will get somewhere!  Stay FABULOUS...with or without the makeup!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Coming Soon!

Jerrod Blandino announced on his Instagram today that the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette will be available on TooFaced.com March 17th!  The recent eyeshadow palettes from Too Faced have been dominating the market.  Don't get me wrong there are a lot of great palette releases in the last couple of years from other companies (eh hmm...Morphe).  But, Too Faced took their buttery eyeshadows a step further than the competition.  They added the scent factor.  Most love chocolate...I cannot say all because I do not.  But, the coco in the chocolate palettes have my makeup bag smelling like a candy store.  Too Faced even redesigned the original chocolate bar packaging to make it more sleek and travel friendly.  They are doing what every makeup lover wants...listening to their customers!  I adore the peanut butter and jelly palette.  It's a cute, warm toned neutral palette...again addressing the demand for more peanut butter.  I, myself, am a Georgia girl, so peaches sound so good to me.  I feel as though the warmth and color selection for this palette embody a peach.  I cannot wait to get my hands on this palette.  Maybe I just want because it represents my state...who knows!  Will you be snagging this palette?  Stay FABULOUS!

As I Am Coconut Co Wash Cleansing Conditioner Review

This has become my current fav for co washing.  This product seems to give a very delicate cleanse and leaves a lot of slip.  It feels as though it is a mild shampoo and lightweight conditioner...hence co wash conditioner.  The price ranges from 6.00-9.00 USD for 16 oz.  So, you get a generous portion of product for the price.  I caught it on sale at Sally's for 5.79 USD.  You can find this product at most retailers including Sally's, Target, Walgreens, CVS, beauty supply stores, etc.  I have not tried any other products from this line yet.  Have you?  Stay FABULOUS!

Anatasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Review

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer was not the first of its kind on the market, but it is the best...at least in my opinion.  What else would you expect?  In January, ABH released it brow definer.  It's a triangle shaped, thick brow pencil that is meant to help define the brow in a few easy strokes.  Now there are a lot of mixed reviews for this product.  Some say that it loses shape too fast...some say that the product is too stiff for fill in the brows.  The stiff comment is not anything new.  That is the biggest downfall for ABH products.  You literally have to roll them and warm them up before applying.  That is my biggest negative for this current product.

Now on a more positive note, this brow definer increases the speed and ease of filling in your brows.  For those whom struggle in the brow department (ME!), angle my hand and a few strokes and you have yourself some nice brows.  I definitely would suggest this product for beginners and non-brow experts.  If you currently own the brow wiz and it works perfect for you, you do not need the brow definer.  I think that this is a good option for those who may  not feel confident with the brow wiz, powder duo, or dip brow.  Being in a pencil form definitely makes it travel friendly as well.

Price.  You are paying two extra dollars for  0.004 oz more of product compared to the brow wiz.  I personally do not mind because it works for me, but come on ABH...think about us broke gals.  Overall, I think the product is worth a try.  Have you tried ABH's brow definer?  Stay FABULOUS!

Tea Time: Being A Christian Today

I struggled with writing this one.  I am a believer and a lover of God.  I would not hide this fact ever; but in a world of sin, it's a struggle to show a like image of Christ.  Don't get me wrong, we will never be an image of perfection like Jesus.  But, today's world is a very free spirited, individualistic culture.  Many seek to be androgynous and unique with no identity labels attached.  This can make the water a little cloudy or even muddy for some.  Being a Christian requires that you hold a firm affirmation of faith.

That affirmation helps protect your from "worldly" desires.  But it reality, we are human, and you look at the other pasture of grass across the way.  We all know that phrase that the grass is not always greener on the other side.  I agree, but sometimes those eyes, hands, mind, etc. wander...

Part of the holistic approach to life is to have faith in something or a spiritual relationship.  I love God.  So, how do I try to keep on track in wild world we are living in?

1.  Understand that you will make mistakes.
I have been led astray so many times that I can count.  I have made every mistake that you can think of...<insert mistakes here> :)  God is a forgiving God...so live, learn, and ask for forgiveness.
2.  Seek your purpose.
All will work together for the greater good of God.  We all have a purpose here on Earth.  Learn your purpose and focus on it.
3.  God's timing is the best timing.
When I was young, I was always told that God is a comedian.  He is a funny way of making things go right or really, really bad.  His timing is amazing.  I struggle with things not coming in my own timing...marriage, children, career!  I am praying for patience to enjoy the journey while He prepares me for my blessing.
4.  Live, love, laugh
5.  Pray
Always.

Curls Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly Review

So, this is the second Curls product that I have tried.  I was absolutely in love with the first one, Curls Creme Brule Curl Cream.  I am still on the fence about this product.  My initial impression was that the product is not bad, but it was not the best either.  My favorite thing about thing about this product is that is smells so good...even better than the Creme Brule.  This gel is pretty tacky compared to products like Eco Styler Gel.  The tackiness of the product caused my hair to clump together is some areas making it difficult to detangle later.

So, after using the product a few more times and looking for suggestions of how to use it on YouTube.  I decided to comb the product through my hair once it was applied.  I originally feared causing more frizz by combing the product through, but I used a demann brush to lightly distribute the product to keep from clumping.  Trying this method decreased the amount of tangles and tackiness in my hair that I experienced the first two times after applying this product.  This gel has great hold, and it makes my curls very defined.  I am still not sure if this is going to be my holy grail gel, but it definitely a nice addition to my hair care routine.

My last con is about this product is the price.  At Target, this product retails for 17.00 USD which is very expensive for a 8 oz bottle.  A little definitely goes a long way, but the price for this gel is much more expensive than the other products in this line.  This is yet one other reason that has me on the fence about this product.  Have you tried any Curls products?  Stay FABULOUS!

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks Now Available!

Bite has just released a fairly large lipstick collection.  These are bold, color packing lipstick shades including several nudes to even a black lipstick.  Surprised?!...I am!  The line includes 34 shades and retail for 26.00 USD.  Bite states:
"A collection of high-impact lipsticks in dimensional shades that have been handcrafted to deliver extreme moisture, soft texture, and creamy wear. "
Do keep in mind that Bite is all natural...basically edible.  I think that the shade range is will increase the competition on the market.  These lipsticks can be currently purchased at Sephora.  I do not own any yet, but I would like to try at least one.  Have tried this lipstick yet?  Stay FABULOUS!

Makeup Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer Review

Does Make Up For Ever ever disappoint?  Known for their resilient products, Make Up For Ever has mastered the mattifying primer.  Don't get me wrong, I still love my Becca Ever Matte Primer...but MUFE has created an awesome product.  This product is not the sole primer in the series.  They have primers targeting hydration, color correction, so forth.  Let's get the elephant out of the room now.  The product retails for 37.00 to 39.00 USD.  I only get 1 oz of product which is very expensive compared to other primers on the market.  You are at least expecting to get 1.35 oz or more product for the same price.  You get what you pay for....and that is a great primer.

I have very oily skin....very oily.  This product does not end all oiliness for me, but it allows me to go the longest amount of time with minimal shine.  I can now make it through an 8 hour day with blotting one, maybe two times.  The consistency is a medium thickness white gel texture.  It is not as thick as Becca, but thicker than Smashbox.  It does not leave a white film after drying like some mattifying primers.  I will not say this often, but this product is worth the price to me.  Finding something that controls my oil is high on my needs list.

Quick secret:  I actually mix MUFE and Becca together, and it seems to create a slightly longer hold.  I put more MUFE in the center of my face for high oil control and more Becca around the perimeter of the face.  Works like a charm.

Stay FABULOUS!
